Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a branched or simple, thickened stem-base and a taproot; stems ascending to erect, numerous, spreading and forming mats up to 15 cm wide.

Leaves:
Basal leaves forming rosettes, narrowly egg- to spoon-shaped on thick stalks, 1.5-5 cm long, smooth; stem leaves lacking.

Fruits:
Capsules, egg-shaped to oblong, flattened; seeds 5-11, black, shiny, 1 mm long.

Habitat and Range

Dry sandy sites and scree slopes from the montane to alpine zones; rare in SC BC, known only from Placer Mountain and Cathedral Provincial Park; S to CA.
